Match Report

Mornington Boys 6-1 Dunton Dynamos

League game - 15th February 2009; Conditions: Chilly, grey and breezy

Dynamos succumbed to top of the table Mornington in Canvey Island today, but there was enough fight and determination in the second half to demonstrate how far the team have progressed this season.

In the early stages, Dynamos seemed to pay the league leaders far too much respect and stood off of them to allow all of the early pressure to be on Ross’s goal area.

Dynamos were relying on a breakaway to make an impact and during the sustained assault on their goal, Mornington benefited from a deflection into the path of their striker to fire a fine goal for the lead.

However, the game could have been much different as AJ burst through the defence to crash the ball against the crossbar. It was a fine strike that could have made a big difference if it had gone in. As it was, the last touch of the first half fell to Mornington as they headed home a poorly defended free kick to take a two goal advantage at half time.

Mornington then scored three quick goals in what could have been a rout, but Dynamos rallied well and began to respond positively to the challenge. The team started to play with much more aggression and really began to take the game to the leaders. Dynamos finally scored a deserved consolation goal when AJ burst through once again to pounce on a clearance from defence by Harry.

Mornington scored a final scrambled goal to complete a 1 -6 defeat for Dynamos, but the score-lie did not reflect the concerted effort the team put into trying to rescue the game. It was a brave effort in applying a determined, aggressive response that auger’s well for the cup final looming against the same opposition.

Man of the Match: HARRY - for a determined, aggressive, fighting display.
