Match Report
Brandon Groves 1 - 3 Dunton Dynamos
League game - 18th January 2009; Conditions: Very cold, dry and windy
Three second half goals confirmed Dynamos first win in 2009 as they came from a goal behind to defeat Brandon Groves on a bitterly cold lunchtime kick off in South Ockenden.
It was Dynamos first
match in 6 weeks and the long break from playing a competitive match may
explain why they were quite slow in settling into the game. They defended
against the strong wind in the first half and were fairly comfortable
until Adam could not quite get under a long, looping ball from Brandon
Groves and his defensive, headed ball sailed over goalkeeper Ross to give
the greens a fortunate early lead.
The boys’ heads never went down though and they tried to play constructive football in difficult conditions. Jonathan was the first to try his luck from 20 yards following up a clearance from a Dynamos corner and Jack soon followed suit as he had two efforts from distance; the second of which produced a fine tip over the bar from Brandon Groves ‘keeper.
In the second half,
Dynamos took full advantage of the gusty wind and two goals came in the
space of a few minutes, both from long clearances from Ross which were
first of all pounced upon by AJ and the second was scored by Oscar.
The boys gained confidence from the winning advantage and a third goal seemed inevitable. It came courtesy of a fine cross by Jake on the right hand side. He found AJ who slotted home from six yards.
Brandon Groves made a valiant effort in trying to come back, but Dynamos held firm to the end. Ross made a fine diving save to his left which particularly stood out in his solid performance.
Curtis and Jack both
played well. Curtis mad some driving runs from deep and Jack used the
ball well throughout in midfield. Robert made some surging runs from full
back too and it was pleasing to note that this season’s defensive
solidity continued. It was only the second goal conceded in four matches.
In midfield, the boys are using the ball well and there is a growing confidence
throughout, which is encouraging to see week by week.
Man of the Match: Sam, who came on as a second half substitute in midfield and made a real impact
