Match Report

Essex Comets 0 - 3 Dunton Dynamos

League game - 19th October 2008; Conditions: Cold, cloudy, windy

High flying Dynamos produced a solid performance to go top of the league for the first time on a cold, grey, blustery afternoon in Grays. Playing conditions were very difficult on a large, bumpy pitch and the strong wind meant that both teams had some difficulty in bringing ball under control throughout.

The breakthrough came when Jack put AJ clear on the right wing. He then powered his way past the full back and put over a wonderful cross right on the head of Oscar to place the ball in the left hand corner of the net for a wonderful goal from the edge of the 6 yard box. It was a moment of excellent team play and individual skill from all three boys involved in the move.

The moments of similar skilful play were fairly rare however, as the ball bounced high and erratic throughout the match. Centre back Harry was very strong in the tackle and always looked to play the ball sensibly out of defence. He shone in the first half and was an inspiration to his team mates.

AJ was aggressive when released on the break and he always looked as though he would score at some stage in the match. He linked well with Kieran and Jack but unfortunately Jack shot high and wide from distance.

Essex Comets were restricted to the occasional breakaway but did not threaten seriously. Ross made a superb save when called upon as he diverted the ball past the post for a corner as Comets looked for an equaliser. Oscar nearly added at second at the other end when breaking on the left, but his shot hit the side netting.

After the break, Harry continued to use the ball well and his fellow defenders Robert, Curtis, Adam and Jonathan were defending extremely well as a unit to keep Comets at bay. Ross was rarely troubled.

The second goal came from Joe Williams as he ran onto a lovely ball over the top of the defence to score a fine trade mark breakaway goal as he slotted the ball home in fine style.
Joe then turned goal provider as he ran to the by-line on the right side of the box to pass the ball back to AJ, who finally scored with a firm strike into the top loft hand corner to complete the scoring at 3-0 for a comprehensive, table topping victory.

If the boys continue to pass the ball well and support each other from goalkeeper to attack, then the fine start to the season should produce a rewarding finish come next Spring. Well done to Paul for bringing the team this far already by encouraging the boys to play neat passing football. When it comes off, Dynamos are a match for anybody.

Man of the Match this week: Jonathan for a solid, controlled, aggressive, performance at both left back and centre back.
