Match Report

Dunton Dynamos 7 - 6 Beech United

Cup match - 12th October 2008; Conditions: Dry and warm!

Fresh from the success against the then League leaders last week, the plucky Dunton side were keen to build on this performance against Beech United in the first round of the Cup. Beech play in the division above us and are known to be a well-organised side. It was all set-up to be a thoroughly entertaining game - and so it proved to be!

Team Manager Paul was not present for this game as he was attending his FA coaching badge course. Simon therefore once again took charge. Both Harry and Jack were unavailable for this fixture due to prior commitments and Dave has moved on to another team (it would have been nice to have been told this a couple of weeks ago!) - this left Simon with a skeleton squad (especially as George hadn't fully recovered from a stomach upset in midweek.

Calum retained his place in goal following his excellent performance in this position the previous week. Chaz dropped into the right-back position with Cameron on the left. James G and Liam (captain for the day) played in the centre-back positions. In midfield we had Jordan on the left, Billy and James M in the central positions and Ben on the right. Sonny and George were up-front. On the substitutes' bench were Luke and Joseph.

The Dynamos started like they meant business and managed to get a 4-1 lead by half-time. George was suffering by this time so was replaced by Luke. Joseph came on later in the game to help sure things up.

In the second-half, the Beech side looked more purposeful and put us under more pressure. The teams remained well matched for the first ten minutes with the score moving on to 7-2. Surely this one was in the bag? The Beech team showed enormous spirit as they battled back in the latter stages with four goals. Indeed, we were struggling to keep them from out of our half causing our supporters' finger nails to be bitten to the quick! But for a fantastic display by Calum in goal, we could have lost this game! Indeed, it's a measure of how much pressure we were under that Calum was voted "man of the match"!

The Dynamos held out for an excellent victory against strong opposition. In the first half we looked strong and capable of winning this game easily. In the second-half, our fitness levels were brought into question as the Beech United side clawed their way back into the game.

Goal scorers today were Jordan (3), Liam (2), George (1) and James M (1). Everyone in the team played really well and should be congratulated on a fantastic victory. This was a thoroughly entertaining match played in excellent spirits throughout. With performances like this, maybe Manager Paul should stay away more often!

Our thanks go to the Beech United team who made this such an excellent spectacle. This was a hard, fair game - any team would be disappointed if they scored six goals away from home and still lost! We wish them well for the remainder of the season and look forward to playing them again soon in a friendly fixture.
