Match Report

LTD Cobras 0 - 6 Dunton Dynamos

Pennant Trophy quarter final match - 20th April 2008; Conditions: Cold, very breezy and very overcast

Dynamos put on a terrific performance to progress through to the semi finals of the Pennant Trophy. Curtis scored a fine goal early on to set the scene and after Harry’s free kick was controlled by Joe W, he lobbed the ball over the keeper for 2-0.

The boys gained confidence from a great start. Jack’s curling long range free kick from distance was just wide and Sean cut in from the right forced the Cobras keeper to make a fine save.

It seemed inevitable that another goal must follow soon; a long goal clearance from Ross bounced all the way into Cobras danger area where Sean tried his luck with a lob, but it was wide of the post.

Kieran, Joe W and Oscar linked well down the left and forced a corner as Dynamos kept up the pressure. Cobras attack was restricted to isolated long balls over the top, but Robert, Adam, Harry and Jonathan coped easily with the Cobras efforts. Harry in particular made some great headed clearances.

Curtis made a tenacious run down the right and forced the Cobras defence into an error, which Oscar benefited from as he shot from distance into the bottom left hand corner to make it 3-0. Shortly afterwards, Oscar scored the best goal of the match with a fine individual effort; beating two defenders and tucking the ball away 4-0 at half time.

In the second half, Sean, AJ linked well and more wonderful short passing from the defence through the midfield involving Jack, Spencer, Joe and Sean put the Cobras onto the back foot again. Joe had a very impressive second half, working very hard, always causing the Cobras defence problems.

Harry made good pass through the middle to Sean, who with fine close control passed to AJ to finish and make the score 5-0. A brilliant pass from Kieran to AJ almost made it six but AJ lobbed the keeper and the crossbar. But Joe W did complete the rout shortly afterwards.

All of the boys played exceptionally well. It was difficult to choose a man of the match, which is always a good sign of a fine team performance. Here’s hoping this form is carried over into the semi finals…..
