Match Report

Essex Comets 1-3 Dunton Dynamos

Pennant Cup Match - 9th March 2008; Conditions: Dry, breezy, cold, overcast

Dynamos produced a solid, hard working performance on a cold, grey morning in Tilbury this morning. They ran out deserved winners scoring three goals when they could have many more if their finishing had been better.

This Pennant Trophy match was played on a huge pitch that required a significant amount of running from the boys. Joe Williams started his first match for Dynamos and it was his terrific pass through the middle to set AJ on his way to scoring the first goal.

Comets always looked dangerous when breaking forward but they lacked a quality striker to cause the Dynamos defence and yellow carded Ross any real trouble. Dynamos had a great chance to extend their lead with AJ making a great run from the right wing to cross for Sean just yards from goal, but unfortunately he put the opportunity wide of the post so the half time score was a lot tighter than it should have been at 1-0.

After the break, Spencer’s free kick was pounced upon by AJ who turned and hit the ball just inside the right hand post for Dynamos to extend their lead. A rare breakaway chance for Comets left the defence floundering and it looked like the second half could be a difficult battle as poor defending from a free kick allowed the team in red to pull a goal back.

To the Dynamos credit, their heads did not go down though and they raised their game to spend the rest of the match virtually camped in the oppositions half. Man of the match Joe W secured the victory when his pass into the middle of a crowded penalty area caused the Comets to panic and a stray leg diverted the ball into the bottom corner to make the score 3-1.

It was very good Dynamos performance as they worked hard, battling to the last. The boys tackled well and ran their socks off on this huge pitch to take the honours and a positive step forward in the Pennant Trophy.
