Match Report
Dunton Dynamos 4-3 Essex Royals
League Match - 2nd March 2008; Conditions: Dry, breezy, bright
Dynamos have played better and lost! That is the obvious conclusion following a ragged performance this morning at home against an unlucky Essex Royals. Despite a confident opening 20 minutes when Royals failed to trouble Ross in goal, Dynamos then stopped competing and were very much on the back foot for the rest of the match.
Harry started well with some crisp passing in the midfield and then Curtis played a good pass through the middle for AJ to latch onto to slot the ball home for a 1-0 lead. Joe scooped the ball over the bar from close range and AJ failed to capitalise on two more chances as the teams went in with the narrow score-line still standing.
Despite scoring three more goals, Dynamos second half performance was unimpressive as the team failed to heed the manager’s advice during the break to start tackling more aggressively and certainly to start competing in the air.
Royals scored a fabulous deserved equaliser with a terrific free kick from 20 yards outside the box. Then, a harsh handball by Royals in the opposite penalty box allowed Dynamos a great opportunity to regain the lead. Unfortunately for Jack, the Royals goalkeeper pulled off a terrific save to keep the scores level.
Credit to Dynamos though, their heads did not go down unlike last season. Spencer put AJ through to enable him to score his and the teams’ second goal as Dynamos regained the initiative. But the lead did not last for long as Royals forced home a second equaliser.
Just as it seemed as though the Royals would build upon their second goal, Sean took control of the ball on the left and turned well to hit a hopeful shot just outside the penalty box towards goal; however, the keeper let it slip through his legs to concede a very fortuitous third goal for Dynamos. Sean’s second goal shortly afterwards was a fine finish squeezing the ball home from an acute angle.
Despite conceding a third goal from a fine close range header, Dynamos held out to complete a seventh victory out of 12 league matches. How? Well it remains a bit of a mystery, but as so happens in football, teams don’t always get what they deserve! This time, it was in ‘our’ favour.
