Match Report
Dunton Dynamos 2 - 3 Thurrock Tigers
League Match - 14th October 2007; Conditions: Dry and mild
After scoring 2 goals in the first 19 minutes, Dunton looked to be on course for a second successive league victory on a perfect October morning. Unfortunately complacency set in throughout the team and poor defending allowed the Tigers to score 3 goals in 5 minutes to give them a first half lead that they never surrendered.
It all looked so promising early on as Sean scored after 8 minutes with a slight touch past the keeper and his second after 19 minutes was a delightful lob after a contentious handball.
Dynamos were passing the ball around well with Jack was playing some good passes through from midfield. One passing move involved 5 different players and a third goal looked imminent. The back four were relatively untroubled, with Adam, Robert and Jonathan heading clear.
However, it was the Tigers who scored next with a great shot from the left hand side of the area to pull one back. Dunton heads stared to drop after a cross field pass across the penalty box allowed the right side midfielder to crash the ball home to equalise from 6 yards. Moments later, as the Dynamos pushed up field; the Tigers broke through the middle from their own half and scored a quick third.
In the second half, Dynamos fought back and showed more commitment throughout in their efforts to rescue the match. Jack put Sean through once again but his shot went over the bar in a fine move, but attempts on goal were fairly limited as Dynamos found it difficult to gain any momentum for a sustained period of time.
Tigers could also have scored from a number of chances to extend their
lead, with Ross pulling off a wonderful reaction save when he pushed the
ball over the bar. Despite a frantic last few minutes, Dynamos could not
get the point they deserved. The game was ultimately lost in those 5 mad
minutes in the first half, coupled with poor some finishing. Hopefully
the team will come back wiser and stronger after the half term break.
