Southend & District Junior Sunday League - Under 14’s League match
Weather: Cold, grey, murky
Hambro Colts 4 – 1 Dunton Dynamos
This was a poor, depressing performance which matched the grey, murky early Sunday morning in Rochford. Dynamos just did not seem to be ‘up’ for this match. It all started well as AJ hit a left hand cross hot goal-bound but the Hambro keeper pushed the ball into the side netting. But soon afterwards, Hambro burst through the Dynamos defence and their striker hit a fine shot into the top right hand corner of the goal. 0-1
Ross was very busy trying to prevent an onslaught; diving well to parry a shot to his right and then catching well from a shot from twenty yards out. But poor defending allowed Hambro to extend their early lead with a breakaway goal. 0-2
Ross again prevented a certain goal by saving at the Hambro striker’s feet, but Dynamos were lucky to end the first half only losing by two goals.
Despite a halt time pep talk, Dynamos soon conceded a third as another Hambro breakaway could not be dealt with effectively. Ross did his best to keep the scoreline down with more good saves in the second half. The only glimmer of light came when Joe Williams’ cross shot looped over the keepers head for a consolation goal, but soon after this rare positive effort of note, Hambro forced the ball home to score a fourth for a well deserved victory.
