Southend & District Junior Sunday League - Under 14’s Div. B League match
Weather: Beautiful, clear, warm sunny morning
Berry Boys 1-1 Dunton Dynamos
After the disappointment of losing in a dreadful match the day before at Basildon Town, Dynamos produced a fantastic performance on another beautiful spring morning at Markhams Chase. It was a Jekyll & Hyde weekend of football in the final two matches of the season.
Dynamos played some excellent football from beginning to end and were unlucky not to win this highly competitive, exciting match played in a Corinthian spirit.
From the first whistle, Dynamos put the Berry Boys defence under pressure with incisive passing and flowing football. Jonathan, Jack and Adam combined well down the left which should have resulted in a goal, but the Berry keeper saved well.
Dynamos thought that they had taken the lead when AJ bundled the ball home in the penalty box from a corner, but he was penalised by the referee for a handball offence.
Jamie, Joe and Adam then produced some wonderful interchanges but Adam’s volley went over the crossbar. Jack then set Joe free, but he shot wide when put under pressure the huge Berry keeper.
Another chance fell to Adam; he was put clean through but shot over. It was amazing that Dynamos were still level at the break 0-0.
In the second half the game was more stretched due to the players tiring in warm sunshine and on the large pitch and both teams had to dig deep to try and break the deadlock.
Jonathan, Sam and Adam linked superbly down the left to try and create an opening as Dynamos tried once again to force an opening. The danger of letting Berry breakaway to score was evident as Dynamos pressed forward. Thankfully Ross produced a fantastic one handed diving save to palm the ball away for a corner.
Still Dynamos pushed forward. Jamie dribbled down the right wing but shot wide as the team continued to link well.
However, from Berry Boys’ first corner, the ball was not dealt with and they crashed the ball into the net just under the crossbar. 0-1.
It was tough luck on Dynamos, but to the boys’ credit, their heads did not go down and they battled well once again. AJ Kieran and Jack passed well between them to create a fine chance but again, to no avail, until finally, Adam received a ball over the top to chase and he persisted until scoring at the second attempt as the keeper failed to clear. It was a deserved equaliser for the battling Adam and due reward for the entire team who produced one of their best performances of the season on the final day of the campaign.
Man of the Match: Jonathan for a tremendous, battling display at left back; defending well and linking defence with attack at every opportunity.
