Southend & District Junior Sunday League - Under 14’s League match
Weather: Cold, sunny spells
Dunton Dynamos 0 – 4 Hamlet Court
This was never a 0–4 match. Dynamos played extremely well throughout this match and played the game with a great fighting spirit that deserved at least a draw. Bearing in mind that they had been truly thumped 0-10 the week before by the same team, it could have been far too easy to roll over and let the same happen this Sunday, but from the kick off all of the boys approached the match with a very good attitude.
Adam played a fine ball through to AJ from his new midfield role and AJ was unlucky as he shot over the bar. He soon upset the defence again, bursting through but the keeper turned that ball away for a corner. Adam was magnificent, adding extra bite and tenacity in the danger areas. He was playing like ‘a Gerrard, (but better than that!)’
At the other end, Harry prevented a certain goal with a crunching tackle to keep Hamlet at bay as the action swung to the other end once again, as this time AJ fed Adam, who made a driving run, but his shot hit the side netting. Oscar tried his luck soon after, but was just wide of the post, whilst Ross pulled off a great save blocking the return attack.
Despite all of this good football, Dynamos fell behind when Hamlet Court scored against the run of play. Just as last week, the goal came from a ball straight down the middle which was not cut out as the No. 7 slotted home; it was déjà vu, especially when Hamlet scored an identical goal on the stroke of half time. 0-2.
It would have been easy for the boys to have felt sorry for themselves, but to their credit, they continued to show great commitment, with stout defending and driving forward at every opportunity. Adam again shot from the edge of the area and Joe W had a wonderful chance to pull a goal back, but his header was cleared off of the goal line.
Hamlet Court then broke away and scored a third goal, before striking their fourth from the edge of the box with a fine half volley over Ross.
This scoreline was an injustice. Dynamos were by far the better team and they were congratulated by the Hamlet Court manager for their fine efforts this morning. If the team play with a similar attitude in the coming weeks, then they will start to be justly rewarded and climb up the table.
Man of the Match – Everyone!
