Match Report

Dunton Dynamos v Southend Manor (0-7)

Date: 1st November 2009

Venue: Lifstan Way, Southend on Sea

Weather: Atrocious. Gale force winds, driving rain. A bumpy pitch. But apart from that......

This was a truly awful day to forget. Dynamos were outplayed by a talented Southend Manor side in dreadful playing conditions. Just hours after Halloween, Dynamos had to deal with a nightmare early Sunday morning as they defended against the horrendous gale force winds and the torrential rain on a bumpy pitch where the grass was far too long to play good football.

It was Manor who made the most of the situation as they passed the ball with great purpose, putting Dynamos on the back foot throughout the first half. Oscar did his best to play football and he was one of the few players, along with Kieran who tried to keep the ball moving in the early stages. But as soon as Manor had control in the midfield, they looked dangerous and the tall no.16, scored a quick hat trick; each goal was a firm strike from distance – a result of Dynamos failing to close him down on all three occasions. Just before half time, a poorly defended corner resulted in a fourth goal as Manor poked the ball home in the six yard box.

The second half should have given Dynamos the advantage playing with the wind and the rain, but they failed to make any in roads on Manor, in fact heir keeper barely had a save to make in the whole match. Ross made some fine saves to keep the score-line down but Manor broke through the middle to score a fifth and the slotted home a sixth, despite Ross’s efforts to keep the ball out. He was unfortunate to prevent a slippery ball squirming through his hands for a seventh.

Unfortunately, many boys just did not rise to the occasion and did not put the hard work in that was necessary on such a day as this one. Only a handful, including Man of the Match – Adam, could claim any pride in their performance, albeit in conditions that we do not want to face again this season, if at all possible!
